Swirling

HI everybody I present to you Swirling :-)

Swirling is slender and has a light skin. She has a little nose and small lips in contrast with her big dark green, nearly black eyes.
She has long blue/green hair that she wears  always loosely, she likes how it swirls in the current.
She wears a very fine blue grey ribbon in her hair with at each end a pearl. In the middle is a little stone which mirrors the one in her necklace, both were a gift from her grandmother and she wears them all the time.
She has gill slits by her ribs and fins at the height of her calf legs, who have the same color as her hair. Normally they match with the fins at her under arms, but Swirling make those dissapear when she wears gloves.

Usually seen wearing: Swirling loves long dresses who swirl around her. She likes to dance and make her dresses swirl. Her favorite dress is the dress who matches the color of her hair. She has also a dress of a warm red color in which she often goes swimming. The skirt of that dress is cut into wide strips,who swirl around her blue-green tail when she swims.
She never wears trousers. All of her dresses have a low neckline and no or short sleeves. When it's cold, she uses furs that she got from the WolfFolk or long scarves and gloves.
She rarely wears shoes and when she does, she wears ballerinas style or sandals.

Weapon preference: none, she hates them. Only a knive can be a practical tool sometimes and her father taught her how to use a short sword.

Magic: rockshaping, minor selfshaping.

Family:  her father: Clamstone, still alive, 965 year old and a rockshaper, like his father and his grandfather, etc., their ancesters were those who had shaped the High Cove.
Her mother: Capricious, still alive, 898 year old and a shapeshifter.

Personality: Swirling is an optimist, she sees or searches always the good sides of everthing and everyone. She is curious and open-minded to all new things. She is a good listener and has a big heart.  Her parents thinks she is too naive, that she gives her trust too easily. She still has the heart of a child.
 She considers weapons are a necessarily evil, needed only for defense and hunting, though she hates fighting. Although she knows how to defend herself with a short sword when needed.
Rockshaping comes natural to her, it's a way to express her emotions and to explore her creativity.
In difficult times she gets her strength from her family, friends and nature.

Likes: to let her dresses swirl around her, swimming, Rockshaping, long walks, dancing, spending time with friends, trading and talking with the WolfFolk, shiny things

Dislikes: fighting, weapons, sunburn, trousers

Skills: repairing clothes, swimming, communications with animals, interior decoration

History:
Swirling was born out of recognition and she was still very young when it was clear to her parents that she was a rockshaper. Her father, Clamstone was so proud, that he almost forgot that he had always hoped to have a boy. Still he raised her like a son, he made her exercise day after day, with different sizes and shapes and when she got older he challenged her to shape different kinds of rock.
He learned her to use a short sword, she had talent but she disliked weapons to much and after a while he had to abandon the lessons. 

 Her mother Capricious was a tailor and she loved to create and make dresses for her daughter. Later she assisted her mother and learned the basics but she was not as talented as her mother. 
Swirling lived her whole live in the High Cove, she knew every tunnel, every cave.
First her father gave her daily a tour as he explained about her ancestors or showed her how to find the weakness and how to make it stronger until she was considered old enough to do some exploring of her own.

Thanks to her mother she could reshape her own body, nothing fancy, just her fins and tail, it was not like she could turn in to a fish or lobster or any other sea animal. She loved to be able to do so, she wondered how it would be to talk to the animals in their own language, instead of second guessing and interpreting their body language and sending. She still hoped that the gift of her mother, to be able to take the shape of every sea creature, would manifest in her.

She was always curious and loved to investigate new things, she is fascinated by the WolfFolk, she wants to learn every little thing about them.
 When 100 years ago, a stranger was accepted, she wanted to know all about him. She wanted him to tell her about the other worlds he had seen. She wondered what the world looked like, outside the protection of the little safe bubble she lived in. 
But Silence, she learned was his name, honoured his name, he wouldn't talk to her, and the pain in his sending stopped her from forcing the subject. 
The unknown still fascinated her, and sometimes she dreams that she has explored all those new places. She never thought of leaving though because she feels responsible for the safety of her people. It is her job to control the integrity of the caves and to reinforce them where necessary.

She is still looking for her soulmate, she had some moments of pleasure but nothing serious that lasted. She never gave up hope, he was out there somewhere, and some day he would find her.

Nice to see a new girl! I feel like her and Tern would get along... he certainly would've appreciated her low necklines in his younger years ;D

aww, she's rather pretty, and it'd be nice to have another SeaFolk lass!...though, you do realize that if Silence asked Kai, she would gladly shape him gills and/or a tail?

did some minor fixing, but over all it looks good! so APPROVED! and now you have the option of choosing to stay with your WolfFolk name coloring, or go with a SeaFolk.

In her history you said her father was Camstone. Is that right or is his name supposed to be Clamstone?

Clamstone was just taking clam and stone and making them a name.

agh i can't believe i didn't realize it sooner...Swirling's tribal role. is she the tribes Rockshaper, or does she do something else in the tribe? also, shapeshifter is not a tribal position, it's just a magic.

Swirling is the rockshaper, she controls the integrity of the structures, makes new caves, decorations like tables, closets but she also makes art like statues or shapes in the walls.

I'm just curious, why would getting a healer's help to chance one's hair color would be 'tainting' it? It seems to me the kind of moral judgement EQ elves are not in the habit of making.

when I wrote it I was thinking that colouring your hair and living in water was not very practical, I didn't think about healers and shapeshifting possibilities.

And she never would change the color because she adored that color.

I know :-) but it's better to be clear about things, no problem :-)
I appreciate the feedback, sometimes it's difficult to know how the words sound, English is not easy, and sometimes I use the wrong terms and sometimes I translate literally from Dutch but in English has it a whole other meaning or no meaning at all. :-)

Ember, you had a great idea! Using Swirl as short for Swirling. It something that her best friends would use. :-)
