Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Fri Feb 06, 2015 1:36 pm

Snaketwist's cave den was full of shiny things. There were clay jars containing pearls sorted by size, shape and color. On the walls various pretty things - seashells, feathers, shiny stones - had been attached as decorations.

There were useful things there too - a water jug, a sparkstone for making fire, some spare clothes for the cold weather season, spare spear heads and so on - but these were almost an afterthought, the main purpose for this space seemed to be the storage of sparkly treasures.

There was a bed too, of course, a woven mattress filled with soft grass and thick cloth blankets, placed directly on to the floor in the middle, where the sleeper would have a good view of most of his glittery collection. Their shine in the moonlight helped Snaketwist fall asleep.

He entered his cave after the festival, head full of the unusual events of the day. He took off what was left of his pearls and lay down in his bed. Soon he was sound asleep, dreaming of the ocean in its full beauty and peril.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by WolfCandy Sun Mar 01, 2015 5:09 pm

Tern held back a bitter laugh. Free of worries? he thought, I wish. "Despite any of those worries," Tern began, "The festival had its sunny spots." He smiled at this. He had made new friends, spent time with old, faced a fear, and had taken part in the usual celebrations. Had the recognition not happened, it might have been one of the better festivals he had been to. "I enjoyed it as much as I could."

Tern also looked around, following his cousin's gaze and noting the absence of activity. "How did you get up so early?" he asked, realizing how early it actually was for the day after a festival, "Are you not exhausted from the night's festivities?"

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Mon Mar 02, 2015 4:26 pm

"I thought I would be tired," Snaketwist replied, "but somehow I found myself wide awake in the early morning hours. He looked around in his den, and soon located the leather bags containing most of his feather collection - all but the prettiest ones, which were on display along the walls.

"If you see anything here that you want, for the spear or some other purpose, just ask", he told his cousin generously, gesturing at his collection. "most of these things I would gladly give to anyone who had a use for them, and especially to you who are my kin."

There were only a few things Snaketwist owned that he would not part with; these had been given to him as gifts by people that were specially important to him.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by WolfCandy Wed Apr 01, 2015 1:20 am

"The sun has a tendency to do that to an elf. Doesn't she?" Tern mused, "But I have made similar observations regarding many of the radiant and energetic creatures in this land." He grinned, then let the collection of feathers catch his attention.

"You are too kind, cousin," the elf stated as he examined the feathers, "I refuse to take anything without some form of repayment, though."

Tern grew silent, his forehead creasing, as he tried to decide which feathers would work best for Serpent Fang's spear. Unfortunately, only the ones he would want on a spear stood out to him, and he couldn't decide which would be best for his possible half-brother.

"Which two would you say are the most simple and plain, Snaketwist?" he finally spoke.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Mon Apr 06, 2015 11:45 am

"The sun, yes. And restless dreams." Snaketwist replied. He would not go into the subject of his dreams further, concentrating on the feathers instead. "Sure, if you wish a trade, a trade it will be." He replied affably.

He studied his feathers, looking for ones such as Tern had asked for. "Simple and plain... how about these?" He asked, showing his cousin two handfuls of feathers. In one hand, he had some black feathers with a blue sheen. In another, long thin feathers in a soft gray tone.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by WolfCandy Fri Apr 17, 2015 2:26 am

Tern shot a sideways glance at his cousin at the mention of dreams. He wondered what was troubling the elf. Not wanting to force any unwanted conversation, but still curious, he decided to gently prod at the subject. "Dreams are cruel little things," he began, "Sometimes so sweet and pleasant, and then they turn on you and bite you right in the fins." He demonstrated his words with animated expressions and hand gestures, ending off with a frustrated huff and crossing his arms. Tern did not like it when dreams turned sour.

The elf took the feathers in his hands and compared them thoughtfully. Both plain, both nice. He tried to ask himself which Serpent Fang would prefer, but the black feathers kept distracting him before he could come to a decision. They were the colour of his hair, and Serpent Fang's hair when he thought of it, and the blue was so pretty. Tern took quite a liking to them, so much so that he saw no reason for anyone to disagree.

"I think I will take these," he said, passing the thin feathers back to Snaketwist and carefully pocketing the others in a small pouch at his waist, "Thank you, these will perfectly complete the spear. I will bring you something in return as soon as I can."

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Fri Apr 17, 2015 10:34 am

"You make dreams sound like some weird kind of fish", Snaketwist replied with a little chuckle, "something pretty and dangerous at the same time. Maybe they are..." he began, then, hesitantly, continued "and indeed there is a dream that chases me and will not give up."

"I thought you'd choose those feathers", he changed the subject, "they suit Serpent Fang very well. Or they will, once the spear is made. Is there enough of them there? I have some more if you need them." He handed the feathers to Tern. "No hurry with the trade."

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by WolfCandy Mon Apr 27, 2015 12:35 am

Tern's eyes lit up, "Snaketwist!" he exclaimed, "That is the most brilliant notion! Little fish swimming through the fabric of unconsciousness. If only dreams were fish. Then we could catch them and keep them forever without having to worry about forgetfulness snatching them away from us." He sighed, eyes taking on a dreamy state, "And for the ones we did not favour, we could cast them back into the sea and never have to think on them again."

The final words in his cousin's sentence snapped Tern back into the real world. He frowned. But, before he could say anything, the other elf had hurried on. Still thinking on what Snaketwist had just said, Tern took the feathers and put them in the pouch with the others. "Thank you," he said, "I will bring any I do not use back to you."

He examined his cousin's features, trying to gauge whether a listening ear would be welcomed or rejected. Something was clearly troubling Snaketwist, and Tern was concerned. He hoped the elf would be willing to open up to him. It was not a completely selfless desire, though. Part of him knew that listening to the troubles of another might help him further forget his own. "A pretty determined little fish," he finally said slowly.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Mon Apr 27, 2015 6:13 am

"You're very welcome", Snaketwist replied. "I hope it goes well with Serpent Fang." Snaketwist was not sure what was going on between Tern and Serpent Fang. But he knew the latter of them was sometimes quite a difficult person to be around.

At Tern's next words, he blushed a little. "It is something I need to figure out for myself." He said simply.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

"I hope so too," Tern sighed with a half-smile. I really hope so, he thought. That last thing he wanted was to have drowned a relationship with his possible brother before it was even given a chance.

Tern's smile widened in understanding at his cousin's next words, "Then I wish you luck," he said warmly, "Let me at least help distract you for an afternoon, then. Shall we find some peace at Nymirini's Beach?"

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Sun May 31, 2015 2:15 pm

Snaketwist smiled and got up. "Excellent idea. I was going to go back there anyways, to continue working with the pearls. And I assume you want to work on that spear for Serpent Fang?"

He picked up the pearls, strings, needles and other tools he would need. "Let's hope there is indeed peace there to be found..." he muttered, half to himself. He would not ask about what was going on with Serpent Fang, but as a friend, he could not just ignore it either. "If there is anything else you need help with, just ask me, cousin." He promised.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Tern nodded, "I will enjoy having your company as I finish it." He glanced down at the spear in his hand at the thought. There was not much left for him to do, but he could always help his cousin with the pearls once he was done.

"I am sure there will be," the elf replied, despite his knowing that the comment was not entirely intended for answering, "It is a beautiful day, and most elves are likely still sleeping from the festivities. What could go wrong?" He grinned and began making his way to the cave's entrance.

He stopped, however, at Snaketwist's promise, turning. "Thank you, cousin," he murmured, appreciative of the offer, "Always." He laid a hand on the other's shoulder. "I trust you know you can always do the same? I would never shy from a little extra fishing practice." Tern winked, the sincerity of the moment splitting easily and falling back into a comfortable joviality.

Tern flipped the spear, and headed for the outdoors, humming.

Snaketwist's Cave Empty Re: Snaketwist's Cave

Post by Leanan Fri Jun 05, 2015 12:57 pm

Snaketwist clasped the hand Tern had placed on his shoulder. It was good to have a friend like him.

He went outside and narrowed his eyes, taking a moment to get used to the bright sunlight out there. He began to descend the path in the rock wall which led to Nymirni's beach. As he walked down, he saw there were others on the beach already. "Looks like we are not the only ones awake, after all." He commented. He was still too far to see who was there, but he could see several shapes that had to be elves.
